Well, this is awkward. Does anybody even remember this series? Because rumor has it that it’s coming back. I say that because there’s no big or interesting rumors to bring up for this week. I know. Disappointing. But, I promised myself I’d start writing again this week, and don’t make a girl a promise you can’t keep. Don’t think about that last sentence too much. I sure didn’t. Let’s get into it.
Nintendo’s Next Direct: The next Nintendo Direct is tomorrow and promises to show off some summer Wii-U and 3DS games. Frankly, I couldn’t care less about anything coming out in the summer for that console. I’m not getting it anytime soon. It would be nice to see any sign of life from it, though. It’s sad seeing the numbers for that console. In April, the Wii-U sold about 50,000 units in North America. In that same month, the Wii sold 75,000 units. Yeah, it’s pretty bad.
I’m hoping they at least tease some E3 showings tomorrow. They’ve said that E3 will have its own Nintendo Direct that covers the autumn and beyond, but it couldn’t hurt to get the engines on the hype train moving. I want to hop on board, but I really can’t fall for the tricks again. Year after year, I’ve believed Nintendo knows what they’re doing and will blow me away at E3. Year after year, I’ve been disappointed. I can’t be hurt like that again, Nintendo. I can’t go through that pain.
So be depressing, guys and gals. Expect nothing. Be happy and excited for nothing. That way you can’t be disappointed! That mindset worked out pretty well for Vince Vaughn in Dodgeball. Why can’t it work for us, too?
Dat Durango: I guess what’s most impressive about the Nextbox is how little has been leaked. Not even mentions of far-fetched ideas are popping up. Well, other than the whole always online thing a few weeks back. It’s usually around this time where there’s leaks, spills, floods and all sorts of other liquid words used to describe information traveling.
I am excited for the Xbox conference; however, I’m not hoping it’s going to be great. I’m hoping it’s just okay. I feel that that is reasonable. Microsoft has shown that they want to be the multimedia king, so that will obviously be a huge part of their next system. I just want them to not be embarrassing. I will end up owning all the new consoles at some point, no matter how poor their libraries are. It’s just how I am, unfortunately. I want to be excited for it, and I will be if they don’t mess up. They don’t have to blow my mind. Microsoft simply has to show that they’ll support games as much as they’ll support Netflix, Hulu, Last FM and other apps I can use on every single other console, computer, tablet and cell phone I own.
Well, I guess I wouldn’t mind if Microsoft was so embarrassing that we could get another one of these. Yeah, that would be nice.
Hopefully, this following week will prove to be more fruitful with rumors. Until then, let me know what you want from the Nextbox conference and from the Nintendo Direct in the comments section.
