I have played a lot of MechWarrior in my day. It’s easily one of my favorite franchises in existence, but unfortunately it’s a franchise that’s been mostly left alone by the video game industry since 2001. Sure, there were expansions to MechWarrior 4: Vengeance (oh and those MechAssault games), but not until now, with Piranha Games’ MechWarrior Online, do we have a new game with updated graphics and mechanics. It’s a chance to show a whole new generation what being a ‘Mech pilot is all about.
I’ve spent a ton of time over the past couple of months learning the ins and outs of being a MechWarrior in the current gen. I still spend a lot of time playing MechWarrior 4, and I have a certain expectation of how a ‘Mech should feel in a game. It should feel as if you’re driving a giant walking tank, not jetting around at insane speeds firing lasers and rockets as fast as you can pull a trigger. You should have to manage the heat from your weapons and take the momentum of something that weighs 100 tons into account when planning your movement. MechWarrior Online does all of this and it feels great.
So, some friends and I, including Dylan and Gabe, took the game for a spin recently. I did my best to capture some of the better (likely worst from a performance standpoint) moments in game. I hope you guys enjoy it. This was my first run at editing video. If you guys like this kind of stuff I hope to do a lot more of it in the near future. I’ve recently acquired recording equipment/software for my PC and my consoles.
Oh, also, we’re giving away a ton of beta keys here after the jump. First come, first served. All of our pilot names are at the end of the video, so be sure to add us and maybe we can get a few games in. Finally, I’d like to apologize for the video visual quality. I’m still learning our editing software. I’ve already got it figured out for next time.
