Two weekends and two previously unfinished games are all wrapped up. Sunday evening I finally finished up the campaign for Borderlands 2. It was super timely, I know. I was about to text Gabe this afternoon and see if he wanted to do a spoilercast, but then I realized that I’m probably the last person to finish the game who’s going to bother finishing the game at all. I guess we could still get together and talk about it. That or Halo 4.
Since I spent a while talking about how Halo 4 wrapped up in my last blog, I can take some time to talk about Borderlands 2 here. It might get a little spoiler-y up in here the rest of the way. So, avert your eyes if the story of Borderlands 2 matters that much to you.
It was good to see some real exploration of the characters from the first game. By the end they actually felt like real people you care about. However, the new cast of characters feel a lot like the same husk the original characters did in the first game. So, are we going to run into a trend where each successive game just tells the story of the characters from the first? It’s not too bad of a formula until this Borderlands train runs out of steam. That last group of characters is going to really get the shaft. Or, maybe with a little foresight they’ll just kill them off. And you won’t care.
I do like the implications at the end of the game that we might see Borderlands games on other planets. How would you feel about one game that spanned a few worlds? I think it could maybe be done well. It would be cool to see two different groups of hunters on two different worlds at once. It could be a little over ambitious when you think of how the level-up and multiplayer systems work now. Then I guess I could ask if we even need to see other worlds? Yes, it offers new environments, but we don’t really know what all of Pandora looks like. So, in theory, you could still present a lot of new things on the same planet. New planets are obviously OK by me, though. Borderlands 2 was a pretty good step forward from the first. It’s a trend I hope they keep up.
So now I still have a couple of things on the back burner. Skylanders Giants and Darksiders 2 haven’t seen any action in some time. But, now I have new things to play as well. The Wii U still warrants more exploration, and I recently grabbed a cross-over copy of PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. Yes, I ended up getting it. I was online for a bit tonight, but didn’t see any of the twitter folks who had said they picked it up. I hope to catch you guys for a bit this week. So far I’ve run though the arcade mode with Parappa and Raiden. I can’t say which I liked better. Parappa felt better in combat, but Raiden had some pretty killer specials. I feel like I really need to try Fat Princess. Maybe I’ll go do that now.
Quickly, to the lady in front of me trying to barter at the checkout line at Target. It’s Target. The prices are pretty much set. And no, you can’t apply for a second fucking credit card in order to save 5%. You lost the first one. You should probably find it lest a soon-to-be severely disappointed identity thief get a hold of it.
